Pupils of Adeniran Memorial Grammar School, Ogbomoso, have lamented over their results, which were recently released by the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The student representative of the school, Mubarak Abdulmumeen, affirmed that all the visually impaired students that took the NECO examinations for 2022 failed woefully.

The students maintained that they were not informed about the new policy on the usage of braille, adding that people living with disabilities usually make use of typewriters for their examinations.

They, however, urged examination bodies and relevant stakeholders to find solutions to their results.

“Unexpectedly this year, we were not informed about the new policy before the exam was taken. After the scripts were marked, we discovered all the blind students failed all the nine subjects.”

“We informed NECO officials about the issue. They did not disclose the real cause of the mass failure, but only to discover from the Lagos State government that we failed on the account of using a typewriter instead of braille for the examination.

“To be realistic, the NECO officials have infringed on our rights with this unscrupulous decision. Moreover, if we make use of this braille, the time given to us will never be sufficient for us to finish our examinations. Also, the recreational facilities needed for this examination system were not provided.

“This has never occurred since the inception of NECO, Why this year? If they will even take a step, is it to fail us? Agreement was not reached before they implemented their decision,” the students lamented.
